These Curves are now around 25% stronger than their predecessors while still retaining long fine needle sharp points which are now extra durable. These are highly effective in a whole variety of rig presentations (perfect for the Ronnie Rig) and their quick turning, anti-eject shape combined with a needle sharp point ensures exceptional hook holds.
The initial launch of ESP Cryogen hooks in March 2016 caused a massive stir with discerning anglers quickly recognising the distinct technical advantages they offered. They were the result of over three years of development and field testing which culminated in a new standard in strength and point durability.
New manufacturing techniques including both high temperature and cryogenic tempering have produced significantly stronger hooks with more durable, long life points.
Cryogenic tempering is a process used to improve the molecular structure in steel which in turn reduces stress and improves strength and wear resistance. It is used in many disciplines with Formula 1 engine parts being a classic example.

Bench tests on initial samples proved to us that the new tempering processes combined with improved designs and heavy forging resulted in hooks that were 25-30% stronger than other PTFE coated carp hooks in the same wire gauge. We subsequently sent the hooks for independent scientific testing on hardness and tensile strength and the tests carried out confirmed and supported our initial findings.

So rather than having to improve strength by simply increasing wire gauge, new manufacturing processes have allowed us to maintain optimum wire gauges for each size which allow for fine, ultra-sharp needle points which are now more durable than ever.

ESP is now delighted to introduce three new patterns into the Cryogen range, with each type having been developed, tested and ‘tweaked’ over the last 18 months. They have proved outstanding in field testing and provide an even greater choice in high-performance, long-lasting carp hooks.

ESP Cryogen Trig Hammer XT

The Trig-Hammer XT is a stepped up version of the incredibly successful Trig-Hammer.  The original shape has been retained but size for size the XT’s are 0.1mm thicker in wire diameter. This might not sound much but combined with heavy forging and twin tempering, the result is hooks with minimal flex and maximum strength that have performed superbly in testing.
 

The ultra sharp, durable needle points are marginally longer than the originals and combined with the aggressive shape and slick PTFE coating they result in exceptional hook holds especially when used for Ronnie / Spinner rigs. We have added a size 2 due to requests from anglers fishing demanding venues for seriously big carp both in the UK and abroad and the XT’s can cope with the rigours of fishing at range with braid on weedy venues.

Providing a highly effective presentation, these rigs are assembled in our own factories and feature the ESP D-Sleeve which ensures critical separation between the hook and pop-up which results in better hook holds. The metal bait screw on the D-Sleeve allows for quick and easy pop-up attachment. 

These rigs incorporate Trig-Hammer XT hooks, which are exceptionally strong with ultra sharp and durable needle points along with a slick PTFE finish. The hook is attached to a quick change matt black Ronnie Ring swivel.
